In 1969, the French state railways (SNCF) put the CC 6500 electric locomotives into service, the most powerful locomotives in French railway history to date. A total of 74 locomotives were built in three series with different side walls. In the first few years of use, the locomotives were mainly used to pull well-known express trains such as the “Mistral” or the “Capitole” due to their top speed of 200 km/h.
