The Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) purchased the entire locomotive factory “Società Ernesto Breda” in 1927 40 machines with rod drive. The 94-tonne, 13,910 mm long machines with the axle configuration 1'D1' were operated with three-phase current and had a continuous output of 2,200 kW.
The E.432 could often be seen ahead of international express trains on the Brenner route in the 1950s. The Italian State Railways used the E.432 series until 1976.
